Watermelon a libido booster
Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus) is known for its many health benefits and properties, among them its ability to increase blood vessels circulation and even libido levels, or, at least, that's what reveals the research performed by Dr. Bhimu Patil, director of Texas A&M's Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Centre.
Apparently the effects are due to an amino acid, the citrulline, an active constituent present in watermelon, among others, which helps to relax and also dilates blood vessels, pretty much the same as other well-known medicines aimed to cure sexual dysfunctions.
It seems that the amount of citrulline contained in watermelon can be used directly by the body as scientists from the ARS South Central Agricultural Research Laboratory, Lane, Oklahoma. Image: See credits below under reference .
Common name: Watermelon.
But this is not the only one, other studies, i.e. the study performed by the Department of Nutrition, Food and Exercise Sciences, Florida State University, Tallahassee, USA, demonstrated the effects of watermelon supplementation on aortic blood pressure in individuals with pre-hypertension.
WATERMELON AND NITRIC OXIDE LEVELS
Nitric oxide stimulants are well known by bodybuilders, together with those suffering from Erectile Dysfunction. The reason is very simple, Nitric Oxide is a circulatory system booster because it is able to relax blood vessels and let our bodies get a much bigger quantity of blood delivered to their organs, including muscles and sexual organs.
We know nitric oxide stimulates blood flow and this has some benefits for those having it but how does this happen? How does nitric oxide stimulate blood flow? First of all, let's see how is nitric oxide produced.
Nitric oxide is a gas produced when the amino acid L-Arginine gets converted into L-Citrulline, therefore, if we are looking for nitric oxide stimulants we will need somehow to get L-Arginine. The nitric oxide gas helps to relax the blood vessels and increases that way the blood flow.
At this stage we have to understand that many companies are selling products as L-Arginine aimed to increase the levels of nitric oxide in our bodies and consequently the blood flow, helping, for example, body-builders to bigger muscular mass.
Other aliments rich in L-Citrulline increase your intake of peanuts, almond nuts, walnuts, hazelnuts, pistachios, beans, soy beans and many others, but among all those ones a recent investigation showed that watermelon is the richest fruit in L-Citrulline!, YES! L-Citrulline is the origin of nitric oxide, our blood flow stimulant.
