
P - Herbal remedies for prostate and breast cancer
Day after day the number of persons affected by breast cancer and prostate cancer increases. In the USA breast cancer is among the most common cancers. In male population prostate cancer is its equivalent in number of occurrences. The study presented in this article shows some hope on the treatment of those two common types of cancer by using pectin, a heteropolysaccharide found in citrus fruits, specially on citrus peels, where the content of pectin can reach up to 30%. Other fruits rich in pectin are carrots, oranges, apples and apricots(2).

The source study evaluated the effect of pectin on highly invasive
breast and prostate cancer cells, evaluating on this form pectin could be beneficial for the treatment of this highly common affection. The use of pectin in male and female patients with breast and prostate cancer showed to be effective on fighting cancer cells migration, but no significant effect on their proliferation.

However the combination of pectin with ProstaCaid and BreastDefend dietary supplements, for prostate cancer and breast cancer respectively, showed a further enhanced inhibition of invasive behaviour of breast cancer and prostate cancer cells. It was demonstrated that the treatment with pectin and those two dietary supplements affected the expression of cell-cycle regulatory genes.
